All Micropol Fiberoptic expanded beam products are manufactured according to MIL-DTL-83526 20/21. All expanded beam connectors are delivered with an individual measurement protocol to ensure the highest optical performance.
Micropol has two types of expanded beam connectors, FALCON and PROCON, which both have high quality and durability. The Micropol expanded beam connectors are battle proved according to MIL-DTL-83526 20/21 and are today used in multiple areas such as mining industries, field tactical communication, sensors, radar systems and civil communication in harsh environments.
MIL-DTL stands for “Military detail specification”. The MIL-DTL specifications states requirements for design such as approved materials, how a requirement is to be achieved, or how an item is to be fabricated or constructed. The specification can both contain performance requirements and detail requirements.
The MIL-DTL-83526/20 and MIL-DTL-83526/21 is a military specification (MIL-SPEC) that describes the requirements for Connectors, Fiber Optic, and Termini. This specification outlines the standards for fiber optic connectors used in military and aerospace applications. MIL-DTL-83526 provides detailed requirements for the design, performance, and testing of these connectors to ensure they meet the necessary quality and reliability standards for use in harsh and demanding environments. Suffix 20/21 defines if connector is a Plug or a chassis-connector.
The MIL-DTL-83526/20&21 connectors are designed with optical lenses in the fiber-end which expands and collimate the transferred light, into a mating connector. This type of connector is called expanded beam connector and are used in harsh environments, though to the expanded light which have a larger transmission area then the original fiber core that often are less then 50 microns (0,005 mm). The expanded light makes the transmission withstand contaminations, dirt, water, and particles better compared to a physical fiber optic contact.
