A career at Micropol
Hugo Klint - the chess playing electrical engineer
Micropol Fiberoptic, established in 1988 in Åled, Sweden, has experienced significant growth over its 35-year history. The company specializes in high-precision passive fiber optics, offering customized solutions across various sectors, including telecommunications, data communication, industrial applications, medical technology, and military systems.
In recent years, Micropol has expanded its international presence with sales offices in USA, Germany and United Kingdom. The company's growth is also marked by significant contracts, such as deliveries to CV90 from BAE Systems Hägglunds and to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV).
As Micropol continues to grow, we are also strengthening our team. We are always on the lookout for new talents who want to be part of an innovative company at the forefront of fiber optic technology. This year, we welcomed Hugo Klint as Electrical Engineer to our R&D Department.
Hugo was studying for a Master of Science in Intelligent Systems specializing in electronics design at Halmstad University when he saw that Micropol was looking for someone with his competence.
What attracted me to Micropol was that it is a fast-growing company with many exciting developments, says Hugo and continues. It was the open and curious work culture that drew me in the most. I immediately got a great impression of my colleagues, managers, and other staff, which made the decision very easy.
Hugo started in the beginning of 2025 after he had earned his bachelor’s degree and choose to pause his Master of Science studies to begin his career as an electrical engineer at the R&D department at Micropol Fiberoptic.
The company’s approach to innovation was incredibly appealing, where creativity and curiosity are encouraged, says Hugo and smiles. There is room to test and explore the solutions you believe in.
With Hugo’s competence, Micropol is poised to continue developing advanced sensor systems and electronics to meet the growing demand for secure and reliable tactical communication systems, even in the harshest environments. Hugo’s expertise in electronics design plays a key role in this, and within the R&D team, collaboration thrives with a strong trust in each other’s knowledge.
Outside of work, Hugo finds balance by caring for animals on his farm, where he lives with his partner, their dog, and cat, along with 7 horse stalls (the number of horses varies). This connection to nature and hands-on work aligns with his methodical approach to problem-solving.
Hugo also has a deep passion for football, both playing and watching, and never misses a match with the favourite team Arsenal. Another of his lifelong interests is chess, where he plays multiple games a day and enjoys watching long, intense matches. His fascination with chess lies in its reliance on strategy and skill, where every move is a decision.
If you lose, it’s your own mistake—it's ruthless that way, but also incredibly rewarding when it goes well, he explains.
For Hugo, chess provides a perfect blend of logic and creativity, challenging him to continuously predict his opponent’s next move. This strategic mindset and problem-solving approach also align with his work at Micropol, where innovation and careful planning are key to success.
Micropol welcomes Hugo Klint onboard as we continue our journey of growth and innovation in the fiber optic industry.
