Enhancing tactical stealth and connectivity with fiber optic integration

Micropol has entered a strategic collaboration with Bertin Exensor to strengthen next-generation tactical sensing capabilities. By integrating fiber optic infrastructure into Exensor’s Flexnet system, the solution significantly improves stealth, reliability, and operational performance in demanding environments.

Bertin Exensor is a global leader in Unattended Ground Sensor (UGS) systems, delivering advanced surveillance and protection solutions for defense and security applications worldwide. Their flagship Flexnet platform is widely used to detect, classify, and identify threats using a network of sensors and cameras.

Modern defense environments are increasingly complex, often characterized by electronic warfare, denied communications, and the need for covert operations. Traditional radio-based communication can be limited, detectable, or vulnerable to disruption.

Exensor needed a secure and highly reliable communication solution that would:

  • Maintain system performance in radio-denied or contested environments
  • Enhance operational stealth
  • Support flexible deployment scenarios without compromising reliability

Micropol delivered a robust fiber optic infrastructure designed specifically for tactical applications, including ruggedized cabling and Falcon Expanded Beam connectors. By integrating this solution into the Flexnet platform, Exensor gains an optional communication layer that enables sensors to operate fully passively, without emitting detectable signals.

The Flexnet system itself is a scalable, modular UGS platform combining seismic, acoustic, magnetic, and thermal sensors, enabling accurate detection and identification of targets while keeping operators at a safe distance.

Increased stealth and survivability
The fiber optic solution ensures that communication between sensors can occur without radio transmission, making the system significantly harder to detect. 

Reliable operation in harsh environments
Fiber-based communication allows the system to function even when radio signals are jammed, restricted, or unsuitable, ensuring mission continuity under all conditions. 

Enhanced system flexibility
By adding fiber as an optional communication layer, Flexnet becomes even more adaptable to different operational requirements—whether wireless, wired, or hybrid deployments are needed.
