Fast and interference-protected data communication in BAE Systems’ CV90 combat vehicles
BAE Systems’ combat vehicle CV90 has gained international attention for its high, combat-proven performance. The vehicles are equipped with fiber-optic communication technology from Micropol – offering robust, secure, and interference-protected data traffic, and maximum combat readiness.
BAE Systems’ CV90 combat vehicles are combat-proven and have been reported to be successful on the battlefield. Micropol has delivered fiber-optic communication systems for the internal data transfer within the vehicles.
Unlike copper cable, fiber is immune to electromagnetic pulse attacks aimed at the vehicle’s control systems or radio/radar communications. Micropol’s fiber optics create secure and interference-free data communication, which is a critical factor for the CV90 vehicles' ability to maneuver and perform effectively in combat situations.
The CV90 is used by the Swedish Armed Forces and seven other European countries. In addition, Micropol recently signed contracts for the delivery of fiber optics to new and upgraded vehicles ordered by Sweden and three other European countries. In addition to internal data transfer, these vehicles will be using fiber optics from Micropol for their tactical communication – enabling radio-silent data transfer between vehicles or with external communication points in the field.
Micropol’s fiber-optic communication systems, including the FALCON JR expanded beam connectors, are rugged enough to cope with the harshest environments. They have low signal attenuation, allowing vehicles to be deployed far apart, making enemy detection difficult while the vehicles are at rest. Cable units are available up to 3,000 meters and can be extended to vast total lengths on the battlefield, while maintaining high data speed and quality.
Known for their frontline technology, the Swedish Armed Forces have acquired CV90 vehicles equipped with 12-channel FALCON JR connectors, a connector that is unique to Micropol. With a capacity of 40 gigabits per second per channel, the FALCON expanded beam product offers extensive communication capabilities, including the transmission of high-resolution images or video.
